Uma Nandan Misra has obtained a M. Pharm degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1973, standing First Class First in the University. He was awarded BHU Gold Medal, Aruna & Malviya Medal & IDMA Gold Medal .
He started his Industrial career as a Junior Chemist in Formulation/ Analytical Department in Roussel Pharmaceuticals, Mumbai .He left Roussel in December 1976 to join Sarabhai International and posted as QC Manager of their Malaysian plant- Pharmmalaysia Sdn. Bhd. During 10 years of his stay in Malaysia, he was one among the team responsible for commissioning a new Pharma Formulations Plant and growing the same as No.1 Pharma Company in Malaysia with over 100 formulations in market. He was also appointed an alternate Director in Pharmmalaysia Board.
In August 1987, he returned to India and joined M/s. Ranbaxy Laboratories as QA Manager for Formulations Plant at Dewas. In 1991 shifted from Quality to Production in Ranbaxy as Production Manager.
Later in March 1992, he joined as General Manager in Pharma Production in the American Multinational Cyanamid India Ltd. Later, in 1995 joined Wockhardt Limited as General Manager -Manufacturing at Aurangabad looking after 04 plants namely USFDA Approved Pharmaceutical Formulations plant, Agrochemicals plant, Bio pesticide plant & Large Volume Injectables Plant. In January 1997 moved to Bangalore and joined AstraZeneca, Bangalore as Vice President – Operations, looking after Manufacturing of medicines, QA/ QC, End to End Supply Chain( Procurement , PPIC, Distribution ), Engineering & Projects, R&D, HR, Finance, IS/IT etc. He was also member of the leadership team looking after 5 Plants of AstraZeneca in Asia Pacific Region.
After 38 years of Industry experience, he restarted his career as Executive Vice- President- Operations with Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Haridwar heading 06 Plants of Akums in Haridwar with a total manpower of over 4000 people.
Later he joined Kumar Organic Products Limited as Vice President- Operations from 1st August 2012 looking after four plants of Kumar (2 in Bangalore, 1 each in Hassan, Karnataka and Baroda, Gujarat) and worked till 2014.. He is now an Independent Director there.
He has now joined as Dean- Pharma Training Institute from April 11, 2016
